The biggest factor concerning the design of your dock is going to be your
permit status. If you don't have a permit, we can help you obtain one. If you
already have a permit, your approved size will be listed on the permit. This
does not necessarily mean that you have to buy a dock this size; it is just
the one that you are currently approved for. This can be changed; however,
it can be a lengthy process.
The restrictions are different on Lakes Keowee and Hartwell. One restriction
that is common for the two lakes is that there is a maximum square footage
allowed. This is calculated by multiplying the outside dimensions of the dock.
For example, a dock with a footprint of 26 x 30 would have a
square footage of 780. The ramp would be calculated the same way. On
Lake Keowee, you are only allowed to have a dock that is no more than 1,000
square feet. This includes the size of your walkway going out to your dock.
However, on Lake Hartwell, you are allowed 1120 square feet of dock and this
does not include the gangway. That translates into a dock that is 40 x 28.
These are the most common dimensions for an 1120 dock. There is more information
in our Lake Restrictions sections. You can choose which set of restrictions
applies to you from the toolbar above. We will be glad to help you decide which
ones will apply to you. The next step will help you
decide which dock is going to best suit your needs.
